We offer a menu of services designed to meet clients’ needs and fit their litigation budgets. Our menu of services includes full traditional legal services, limited or unbundled assistance, coaching and consultations. We also offer payment plans and low retainers.
DeRae handles family law cases addressing divorce, child custody, child support, paternity and adoption. She also does estate planning. She particularly enjoys drafting special needs trusts for families with children with disabilities and representing people with disabilities in guardianship proceedings. DeRae has recently added equine law to her practice, including sales, boarding, hauling and training contracts, collections, professional reputation issues and the Utah Equine Liability Act. DeRae volunteers at the Timpanogos Family Law Clinic in Provo and at Courage Reins (a therapeutic horseback riding facility for people with disabilities). DeRae is also interested in helping women develop businesses and she is on the board of the Women in Business Network in Utah County.
When DeRae is not working, she is often with her family’s three horses and their St. Bernard.
Carolyn Pence-Smith earned her law degree from Brigham Young University in 2002. She completed basic and advanced mediation training while at BYU and taught a basic mediation class to students in the business school. Carolyn graduated from University of Wyoming in 1998, with a degree in Social Work.
At Preston, Pence & Lisonbee, Carolyn handles family law cases (divorces, modifications, enforcements of divorce decrees, paternity), adoptions (including step-parent adoptions), and guardianships. She is committed to helping families transition during difficult periods of their lives and hopes that she can help families find peace as they let her handle the stress that comes with the process of divorce. Carolyn also likes to help individuals find ways to reduce conflict. Carolyn offers mediation services.
Carolyn has three young daughters. She enjoys volunteering at her children’s schools. She loves running – especially obstacle course races -, trail running, and hiking.
Elizabeth Lisonbee earned her Law Degree from Brigham Young University. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. Her main practice areas include family law, guardianships, probate, and estate planning.
At Preston, Pence, and Lisonbee, Elizabeth’s work is motivated by her desire to help clients reach work through stressful circumstances to achieve their goals. She is actively involved in serving in the community and she has served as a board member for the Young Lawyers Division of the Utah State bar and and on the Wills for Heroes committee. She is currently serving on the board of the Utah Aging Alliance.
Elizabeth is a mom to three wonderful, exhausting young children. She recalls taking naps and having hobbies before having children and hopes one day to enjoy those things again.
Sheena is the office assistant at Preston, Pence & Lisonbee. She handles client and intake phone calls, scheduling, court filings, invoicing, and, most importantly, client support. Sheena loves working with people and has a love for service. In 2012 she received the Woman of the Year award for Eagle Mountain for her service in the community.
Sheena is a busy mother of three who loves exercise, dancing, the outdoors, and running and biking with her husband. She is the Executive Director for the Cupcake Charity, a non-profit charity in Eagle Mountain. She serves as secretary for the Woman in Business Networking group in Utah county. Sheena teaches fitness classes for adults and a special needs dance class. She enjoys sharing her passion for dance with her students.
